Well its that time of the year again for my hometown Pengins to attempt to keep the NHL's Stanley cup in Pittsburgh. The playoffs are on and so far so good in round one.

Not a sport that gets a lot of coverage over here! but if Larry's happy :D

Well the first round is complete. The Penguins won 4 games to 2 and now await round 2.

The Penguins were the better team in game 2 but the Canadien goaltender was awesome in victory. Series tied 1 game each and now off to Montreal for two games.

Pens 2 Canadiens 0 Pens lead series 2 games to 1. Game 4 thursday in Montreal.

Sorry about yesterday's game, Larry. I might not be rooting for your team, but I still feel bad for people when their team loses (until they're playing my team, lol). Regardless of who you're pulling for, though, you have to admit this is a great series. And it's still early, so the defending champs are far from finished.

On another note, how about that 7-1 routing by the Wings? I still think the Sharks are going to win that one, despite their track record in previous playoffs.

Thanks Marianne! The Pens were on the Habs like a swarm of bees but had trouble with Halek their goalie. I think we will eventually win the race to 4 wins. And good luck to the Hawks! A Pittsburgh vs Chicago final would be awesome! But first our teams have more work to do!

Yep, I agree on all points there, Larry. Don't even get me started about how lucky the Hawks are to have made it out of their first round with Nashville. They're looking a little better this series, game 1 not withstanding, but it's still a long way to the finals. We're just going to have to wait this one out to see if we get that '92 finals rematch.

I've really impressed with Halak's play in these playoffs. Even if you're rooting against them, you have to give credit to the Habs for how well they've played so far. Becoming the first 8 seed to come back from a 3-1 series deficit against the 1 seed was no small accomplishment. I don't remember the numbers right now, but the Habs have been blocking a ton of shots and Halak has been coming up huge on most of the ones getting through to him. Don't be surprised to see this one go seven games as well.

I could talk hockey all day if I didn't have a life lol. There's a reason why it's called the coolest game on Earth, and it's not just 'cause it's played on ice. All those big & burly, manly men swinging their big sticks around. It's no surprise that girls dig hockey players :D

I'm sorry your boys couldn't close it out tonight, Larry. Mine couldn't do it either last night. We'll just have to hope for a better outcome next game.

I have to say, though, if you're a fan of good hockey in general and not necessarily a Pens fan (like our dear Larry), tonight's game was a heck of a game. What a battle! Back and forth all night. I really thought Pitt had a lot of momentum on their side at the end after they got their 3rd goal and I thought they we're going to get the tying goal. Oh well, tonight and last night's games are in the books and all we can do is hope our boys have a better result in their next games.

Nice post Marianne. All i have to say now is game 7 is going to get a bit interesting. Of course we could not do it the easy way. At least its in Pittsburgh!

Thanks a lot, Larry! I've been so excited about my Hawks, but I didn't want to post too much about it. I didn't want to seem like I was gloating. But as excited as I am about them getting to the finals, it's far from over. Philly is looking really good right now. I imagine the ECF was tough to watch. You had the team that beat yours and your state-rival as the other one. It's like having to root for the lesser of two evils. Sorry buddy. Well it's 12 down and 4 more to go for my boys. It's not going to be an easy road to travel. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed for my boys.

We are talking about ice hockey. But sorry, pantyman, I don't play any type of hockey. I would be such a dork out there. I'm a bit of a tomboy, but I have no athletic ability. I'm just a fan of the game. I used to watch a lot of hockey with my dad when I was a little girl and the Hawks became my favorite team. It's my dad's favorite team, too.
